Mission Statement

The mission of Parkway Elementary School, in cooperation with students, family, and community, is to prepare children through quality education in a safe learning environment to become responsible and respectful citizens in a changing world.

School Characteristics

Parkway is a "B" school which means that the hours students attend school are 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. Morning kindergarten students attend 8:30 am - 11:40 am. Hours for afternoon kindergarten are 11:50 am - 3:00 pm.

Parkway Elementary is located in the Green Run area of Virginia Beach. The school opened in September of 1987 with an enrollment of 977 students in grades K-6. The building cost 3.47 million dollars and it has 67,567 square feet sitting on fifteen acres of land. The outside playground includes a basketball court, softball field, challenge course, and an enclosed kindergarten playground area.

The building now houses grades K-5 with a current enrollment of 548 students. Parkway is a Title One school. The school consists of 32 classrooms with a total of 49 teachers. This includes Title One teachers, resource teachers, and specialists.
